Black
Lips
Series
It was important to reclaim the lips as an object, one that has been systematically removed from the Black body throughout history. By restoring its context within the Black body, the work aims to evoke empowerment and reparation. Black Lips has transformed from its performance roots into a series of multimedia images created to generate conversations about the lack of visibility and appreciation for Black female and female-identifying bodies in culture.
